This coming Sunday, October 13th, thousands of runners will participate in this year’s Chicago Marathon. The event, which runs from Grant Park north to Addison, west to Damen, and south to 35th street, begins promptly at 7:30 am Sunday morning. The head-of-the-pack runners will likely finish in just over 2 hours, but many more will be on the route significantly longer.
Spectators are welcome to come out and cheer on participants; detailed information regarding viewing areas & transportation can be found here. Because of the tragic incidents at the last Boston Marathon, security will be stepped-up along the course, with more of an obvious police presence than in years past. There will be bag checks for both spectators and competitors along the route, especially for runners and viewers near Grant Park.
Runners who wish to don costumes this year may find themselves out of luck; although not all costumes will be banned, police will no doubt be cracking down on any gear that could potentially conceal weapons or other dangerous items.
