Apple is Shutting Down the iAd App Network, Too

Following a report in Buzzfeed last week, which was reported on here, that iAd would be transitioning away from its own ad sales force & potentially its programmatic offering, too—all in favor of publisher-direct sales—Apple’s iAd App Network ads will be discontinued as of June 30th of this year.

Apple’s developer blog offered little information as to why the iAd App Network would be axed—saying only the following:

Developers with existing App Store apps can continue campaigns until June 30th; however, no new app advertising will be accepted from this point forward.

What this means for the future of iAd is uncertain: while Apple pulling new iAd App Network advertising does certainly support Buzzfeed’s report, it doesn’t point towards what may come next for the company’s ad products.
