Google Celebrates robots.txt with a Message to Future Terminators

Don’t expect the comparisons of Google to the fictitious SkyNet to end anytime soon.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of robots.txt (you know, that file that tells Google which pages to crawl & which to ignore), the company has inserted an Easter Egg which, ironically enough, directs our future robot overlords to “disallow” the termination of its founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

The faux “killer-robots.txt” file can be seen here. Just in case they happen to take it down (or SkyNet just chooses to ignore the command, a la the NSA), a screenshot is below.

Sure, it’s a kind-of humorous Easter Egg from Google developers, one that I can certainly appreciate. Though, given Google’s reputation for ignoring user privacy & collecting insane¬†amounts of data on each & every one of us, there’s bound to be some whose funny bones aren’t tickled by this little gag.
