WordPress 4.4 Gets Responsive Images, Embedded Posts

For those WordPress users out there, it’s time to make sure you’ve upgraded to the latest version. WordPress 4.4, released last week, is nicknamed “Clifford” in honor of jazz musician Clifford Brown.

In addition to the new default “Twenty Sixteen” theme, WordPress 4.4 automatically creates resizable images every time one is uploaded—enabling all images on WordPress-powered sites to be responsive, regardless of the theme used. The “Twenty Sixteen” theme is also responsive, as WordPress recognizes the importance of mobile browsing not only from a UX perspective, but also, for organic rankings on both Google and Bing

WordPress 4.4 also includes a new feature—embeddable posts. WordPress users can simply drop any URL from another site powered by the CMS to have a preview of the article appear within their own. Embedded articles will also include links to comment & share, and featured images if the original author has selected one. This is similar to the way Facebook’s News Feed auto-populates the content from a third-party website once a URL is pasted.

An example of this embeddable content is below:
