Don’t hold your breath—but, Frank Ocean’s “Boys Don’t Cry” may just see the light of day this month.
If this image is any indication, the long-awaited follow-up to Ocean’s award-winning debut will be released in July. Ocean, clearly self-aware, even included the word “late” in the page’s URL and meta title, as there’s no better adjective to describe an album originally due out one year ago. The sophomore effort has had several release dates since.
Back in March, producer Malay told Pitchfork that “Boys Don’t Cry” could drop at any time. In hindsight, I guess that’s not entirely inaccurate.
Ocean’s rabid fans kept the news of his album’s impending release trending on Twitter for most of Saturday. His debut album, “Channel Orange”, picked up six Grammy nominations in 2013, including album of the year & best new artist. Ocean won in two categories nominated, one for a collaboration with Jay Z and Kanye West.
The image from Ocean’s website was also posted on his brother’s Instagram page on Saturday.
