Naughty Dog revealed at PlayStation Experience 2016 that Ellie & Joel will return for The Last of Us: Part 2.
After giving the audience a preview of the follow-up to the massively-successful 2013 first-person shooter with a The Last of Us: Part 2 reveal trailer, Naughty Dog writer & director Neil Druckmann told a panel at PSX that Ellie would be the star of the sequel—a story that the company almost “gave up” on after years of development.
It has also been confirmed that Part 2 will be set years after the original, with Ellie now 19. The sequel will be a continuation of the original storyline, and while the first was about love, The Last of Us: Part 2 will be about hate, according to Druckmann.
One detail that Druckmann wasn’t prepared to share with fans at PSX was the anticipated release date for TLOU: Part 2. While he did state that Naughty Dog had a timeline “in mind”, the company isn’t ready to make a formal announcement just yet.
Released in the Summer of 2013, The Last of Us was bestowed with over 200 individual Game of the Year awards (more than any other game before it), and was rated a 10/10 0n IGN. Naughty Dog released The Last Of Us: Remastered on PS4 following the system’s release.
