The Complete List of Fall 2016 TV Premiere Dates

Television’s busiest time of year is upon us. Instead of waxing philosophical on season’s past, let’s dive right into the highlights from this year’s schedule of Fall 2016 TV premiere dates.

Returning Favorites

While technically returning in what will still be Summer, Fall TV starts off strong on September 2nd with season 2 of Netflix’s 2015 hit Narcos, followed by Showtime’s Masters of Sex on 9/11, and FX’s sixth season of American Horror Story debuting on 9/14. NBC’s surprise hit Blindspot and South Park also return on the 14th. Fox’s Gotham checks back in the following Monday.

Season 3 of Amazon’s Transparent will begin the true Fall 2016 season on September 23rd, with The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy all returning from Summer hiatus two days later. A Thomas Gibson-less Criminal Minds premieres on September 28th.

Not to be outdone, the month of October has plenty of returning TV hits to keep DVRs company, with Showtime’s Shameless, Black Mirror, and the final season of the sleeper Sundance TV joint Rectify all returning in the month of ghosts and goblins. And, of course, cable’s most watched show—The Walking Dead—will be back to answer last season’s cliffhanger on October 23rd.

New Shows to Watch

Without question, the new show I’m looking forward to most this Fall is HBO’s Westworld. An adaptation of Michael Crichton’s 1973 movie, Westworld centers around a futuristic, Wild West-themed amusement park for adults, one that is populated with lifelike androids running amok. The show boasts an all-star cast, including Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Thandie Newton, and Anthony Hopkins in his first-ever recurring television role. Westworld premieres October 2nd.

Marvel’s third planned series will debut on Netflix at the end of September, when Jessica Jones standout Luke Cage gets his own crime-fighting feature.

For those looking for lighter fare, check out Donald Glover’s Atlanta, premiering on FX on 9/6. Glover stars as a man who returns to his hometown just as the city’s hip-hop scene is taking off, including the career of his rapper cousin.

Reboots are the main theme for Fall 2016, with revised/made-for-TV versions of MacGyver, Van Helsing, and Lethal Weapon all hitting airwaves this season. Oh, and for Gilmore Girl fans, don’t forget: the show’s new 360 minutes of content will all stream on Thanksgiving Day.
