‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff Pilot Gets the Thumbs-Up by FX

Good news, SAMCRO fans: the Sons of Anarchy spinoff featuring the Mayans motorcycle club will get a shot to see the light of day, thanks to FX granting Kurt Sutter & co a pilot episode in 2017.

The Mayans MC pilot begins filming in March, according to Entertainment WeeklySutter will be handling the writing duties, while Emilio Rivera–who played the Mayans’ Oakland president Marcus Alvarez in SOA–is expected to reprise his role.

A potential Sons of Anarchy spinoff has been rumored since before the show even concluded its run back in 2014; though, multiple plots have been tossed around, including a prequel showing the days of SAMCRO’s origins. With Mayans MC, Sutter will focus on a post-Jax Teller world, and a prospect in the Mayans club named EZ Reyes, who called the California/Mexico border home.

Historically, I wouldn’t be one to get too amped about television sequels; though, finding myself continually shocked by just how amazing Better Call Saul has turned out, and with Kurt Sutter helming the pilot (Bastard Executioner notwithstanding), I’m willing to keep an open mind about this.
